"The earth has music for those who listen” : William Shakespeare This book is an endeavour to help our readers to listen “literally” the music of earth. It is an outcome of our sheer interest in birding and a desire to not only introduce but also enthuse our readers about the feathered tribe. It is surprising how we get so engrossed in our work that we miss the colours and ignore the calls even when the bird is right in front of us. Through this book, we wish to make the invisible, visible. Our sojourn at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy, Hyderabad during our basic course training provided us with a unique opportunity to site a large variety of birds. For the benefit of others visiting and staying in the campus, we decided to bring out a small field guide of birds . This guide contains photographs of the sited birds highlighting their identifying features and little description about their most probable spotting location, their calls, their scientifi
